Dr. Jonathan P. Higgins, known as DoctorJonPaul, is an award-winning educator, media critic, author, and strategic communications leader whose work centers on race, gender, identity, and social justice in entertainment and education. With a doctorate in Leadership and Educational Justice (2015) and over 15 years of experience, they have taught at institutions like the University of Redlands, consulted for brands including Apple, Disney, and the NFL, and contributed to outlets such as NBC News, Vox, Essence, and Out Magazine. In 2025, Higgins published the critically acclaimed book Black Fat Femme: Revealing the Power of Visibly Queer Voices in Media and How to Love Yourself (Wiley) and serves as executive producer and co-host of the iHeartPodcast series Black Fat Femme. Using they/them pronouns and embracing the identity “They/Them/Tired,” Higgins is dedicated to amplifying queer Black voices and fostering joy, resilience, and self-love in marginalized communities.
