Oral History Workshop

This community workshop will provide a brief overview of what oral histories are – the difference between a typical interview and an oral history – and the importance of them in preserving African-American history. Some examples of the ways that oral histories can and have been used will be incorporated, including how the Altadena Historical Society has rallied around this practice to preserve Altadena’s Black history after the Eaton fire. As well, practical steps will be provided to help individuals launch their own oral history projects. We also hope to hear from community members who have already done their own interviews, and share any problems or suggestions they have for the group. Materials including a Project Guide, Questionnaire template, and Deed of Gift will be supplied.
